Checklist Before Driving

Before each journey, please ensure the following checks are completed:

Trailer Plug

Ensure the trailer plug is securely connected to the towing vehicle and free from dirt or corrosion.

Safety Chains

Check that both safety chains are properly attached, crossed under the drawbar, and clipped securely.

Tow Coupling

Confirm the tow coupling is fully engaged, locked in place, and the safety pin is inserted.

Handbrake

Verify that the handbrake is fully released before driving to prevent brake damage.

Tyres

Inspect tyre tread depth and sidewalls for cracks, cuts, or bulges to ensure safe travel.

Wheel Nuts

Check that all wheel nuts are tightened to the recommended torque to prevent wheel loosening.

Jockey Wheel

Make sure the jockey wheel is fully raised, locked, and secured in the travelling position.

Number Plate

Ensure the number plate is clean, visible, and not obstructed by gear or accessories.

Lights

Test all lights—including indicators, brake lights, and tail lights—to confirm they are functioning correctly.

Service & Maintenance of Your Float

Regular checks help keep your float safe, reliable, and comfortable for every journey.

Lights

Inspect and replace any damaged or worn lights to ensure visibility and safety on the road.

External Hardware

Check handles, hinges, and external fittings for wear, corrosion, or looseness and tighten or replace as needed.

Tow Coupling & Jockey Wheel

Ensure the coupling locks securely and the jockey wheel operates smoothly and is properly lubricated.

Door Locks

Test all locks for smooth operation and security, lubricating or adjusting where necessary.

Tyres

Check tread depth, sidewalls, and tyre pressures regularly, replacing tyres that show signs of damage or ageing.

Latches & Fittings

Inspect all latches, catches, and interior fittings to ensure they close securely and do not rattle loose.

Wheel Hub

After driving, feel hubs for excessive heat and service bearings if they show signs of overheating or noise.

Wheel Nuts

Regularly check wheel nuts for correct torque, especially after tyre changes or long trips.

Braking System

Inspect brake components for wear, leaks, or imbalance and have them serviced according to manufacturer guidelines.

Suspension

Check springs and suspension mounts for cracks, sagging, or damage and repair if any issues are found.

Tow Ball & Coupling

Inspect the tow ball and coupling for wear, rust, or excessive play and keep them clean and lubricated.

Breakaway System

Test the breakaway cable and battery regularly to ensure the system will activate correctly in an emergency.
